Click Like or Share this Blog if you love Rock & Roll. Motley Crue -The Dirt. Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band Book Review on Style Sista TV. There’s a reason why this book has this sub-title because they were ‘the world’s most notorious rock band’ not only in their day, but even now. A band now a days would never be able to get away with the kind of rock and roll mayhem that these guys got away with in the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s without being hated on and smeared by mainstream media. In fact almost all media because everyone in media wants headlines and who wouldn’t want to write about the train-wrecks that these guys were? I know the media hit them hard back in the day by their antics, but with the media force we have in our day in age they would be torn to shreds with the power of the pen or I guess keyboard more likely.
Motley Crue couldn’t think of anything else that they wanted to do more than play rock and roll, but the sex, drugs and alcohol were very close seconds. In fact the drugs and alcohol tore the focus from them off music for so long that it almost became their downfall permanently. They partied harder than anyone I’ve ever heard of, and that says quite a bit (for real wink) however when they met Ozzy Osbourne they realized he could throw down a whole-nother level of reckless and wasted.
When I read about each one of the band members (Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, Tommy Lee, and Vince Neil’s) lives before rock and roll when they were young and had bad hair cuts and couldn’t find their place in the world, because of how they were raised and the things that affected them as they grew up, it was easy to see how they became the men they were in the early days of Motley Crue. I can’t help but like these guys now that I know their stories. My heart was saddened by some of their stories, disgusted by their fiendish behaviour to drugs, alcohol and misogynistic sex acts. In fact I almost hated them while I was reading the book, however I could only imagine the days in the 70′s and 80′s especially, but the 90′s as well and what it was like to be a bonafide Rock Star more over Heavy Metal Rock Star that partied ‘off the rails’ every night of the week into the mornings. There were no rules where Motley Crue was applied. They were encouraged in some ways by their record labels, agents and managers to make a name for themselves by rampaging their some what punk rock attitudes to show just how rock and roll they really were so their fans would buy their music!! That was until things started and continued to spiral out of control.
This was the downfall of an era of Rock And Roll that will probably never be again, because we know better now, at least about doing it in the lime light for everyone to see. The camera’s are ever rolling now and if you’re caught in the act of anything worth seeing on YouTube, that’s exactly where that clip or act will be posted in a matter of minutes by anyone with a camera which is everyone these days.
So rock on Motley Crue. Seems like you guys got it together in the end. Its nice to see none of you died, although how that happened is to be sure a miracle. It’s cool that you shared your stories even thought some of them are downright offensive. I wasn’t really a fan of yours until I high jacked my friends copy of The Dirt off his beach towel last summer and started reading it. As soon as I got to the second paragraph I was hooked and I had to keep reading. By the end of the book I became a fan because I got where they came from, their troubles and points of view, their rock and roll passion, their desire to party and enjoy the celebration of life and the love of writing a great song. Poetry in essence just with a HEAVY METAL riff backing it up!! wink. So read it and enjoy the mad ride.
